And League Play begins
League play begins this Saturday at 7:30 pm in Santa Barbara at SBCC against the Bishop Diego Cardinals. There’s no sugar coating this, they’re good. When we went into film study we played a total of 42 offensive clips. They have scored 115 points in two games. Do you think that phased our Rangers? NOPE! As a matter of fact we know what we need to do, its just a matter of doing it.
Last week Sophomore Nate Rhodes and Freshman Junior Patino were baptized into the varsity roll on short notice. The experience was priceless and that should help them with this weeks game. Brendon Looker will be returning from his injury but with the good news comes bad news. It looks like we will be without our Senior RB Jake Perry for the rest of the season with a knee injury and Anthoney Rodriguez was out last week and well as this week.
Seniors Scott Barron, Devon Page and Austin Cansler have been pushing the team and even though the outcome isn’t what we would desire, the team is looking forward to league play. One game at a time…

Saturday GAMES BACK to BACK
That’s right, this week we play St Margaret’s High School out of San Juan Capistrano at 6 pm Saturday October 15th. The Tartans are a powerhouse team out of Division 7. We are eagerly looking forward to playing them! Next Saturday October 22nd we play Bishop Diego at 7:30pm.
Before I go any further though, I would like to address some comments I’ve heard
NO…we are not going to 8 man football
NO…we are not going to disband the football program
Our players are the core of this program, they are a prideful bunch of grit and will! They don’t back down from challenges and refuse to fall prey to poor behavior. They are the truth and the soul of why, WE, as coaches are here. We could not be more proud of their accomplishments and we look forward to our future…which is NOW!
This week at practice we made a few minor changes that we feel will benefit us both offensively and defensively. With Jake Perry, Brendon Looker, Anthoney Rodriguez, Trevor Stout, Efrin Zara and others out, it takes strategy to overcome adversity. We brought up Sophomore Nate Rhodes to replace Looker and he’s doing a great job so far. Braydon Rogers will run the ball again this week and look for Sophomore Nick Cansler and Junior Parker Johnson to take reps at the QB position… If all goes as planed we should surprise you and the Tartans! :0)
MINDSET
Noun: the ideas and attitudes with which a person approaches a situation, esp when these are seen as being difficult to alter.
Definition:A fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person’s responses to and interpretations of situations. An inclination or a habit.
Why am I bringing this up you might ask? Well, the mindset of our players today in comparison to the mindset of the players earlier in the year has changed, they no longer refer to “last year”, they no longer “excuse” themselves or create “blame”, they just play with heart! They play for their school and the community that is proud of them for what they are accomplishing! And no matter where they play, if they play or how they play, we expect them to play with everything they have. Even if that means failure.
At our last practice I informed the Seniors that there are only four regular season games left…that’s only 9 practices left…
I made some simple but effective comments (think about mindset for a minute) I said “if not now, when? When will you give it your best? When will you play the best game of your life? What do you want to be remembered for? We are all proud of what you have accomplished, but I don’t think you’re done yet and neither does this staff!”
We look forward to seeing everyone Saturday night!

Halfway there!!!!
As we hit the midway point of our regular season the coaches and I were reflecting on our season. Had a few small, but costly, mistakes been eliminated, we could be 4-1…With that said, we’re not, but we are playing like it! Practice was outstanding this week. Unfortunately this week we’ll be without our top tackler Ethane Sunder, ankle injury, and top rusher Jake Perry, knee injury. Luckily for us we have the next men up. Even with a small group of dedicated young men we have players that want to opportunities to play.
Last Week Jesse Vasquez was a spark on the offense blocking for Braydon Rogers when Jake went down. Mike Trejo and Manny Bautista are growing up fast. Being only a freshman and sophomore they are quickly becoming quite a blocking machine for our running backs. Colby Stevens had a nice game last week scoring two TD’s and as a sophomore, really making a name for himself. The point is even with the small group of guys, we have been playing for each other and that is a goal we set out to accomplish at the beginning of the year.
This week we play Oak Park, coach Casey Webb has them at 4-1! They are big and they are explosive. They like to put the ball in the air. Sophomore Eddie Perez will have the pleasure of guarding their number one receiver Senior #6 Reese Smith…I am confident Eddie will step up to the challenge. Our pass rush from Austin Cansler, Devon Page, Brendon Looker and Anthoney Rodriguez need to coral Senior Quarterback Vincenzo Granatelli, he leads the Canyon league in passing at 1066 yds. Looking forward to that match up.
Come Friday night we will go into the game with what we got and play with our hearts, guts, pride, emotion and the will to come out on top! Looking forward to seeing you there!!
Go Rangers!

Thank you Fans!!!! Week 5 San Marcos…
After coming into the Fillmore game with a great game plan, and a crowd that was electric we felt really good and ready for battle. Unfortunately mistakes cost us the win. Friday night I was hurt, I was mad… this coaching staff wants these guys to win, they deserve it, but sometimes the game plan can be perfect and the small things cost you victory. I left a message for the team Friday night, it said “Rangers, tonight doesn’t define who you are and who you’re going to be. It’s a game….always will be, wins and losses come and go. Don’t forget the one thing that is more important then this one game, your friendship, your family and your love for the game. Your play tonight was spot on, we made mistakes, that can be corrected.”
This week we face the San Marcos Knights. The JV game is Thursday at 6:00 pm and the Varsity Game is at 7:00 pm Friday. We look forward to getting back to work this week and fixing the little things that have given us grief.
On a positive note your Rangers are still on top of the leader boards in the Tri-Valley League:
Offensively:
Parker Johnsen is 2nd in total passing yards with 603 yards
Jake Perry is 4th in total rushing yards and only 3 yards behind the #3 with 330 yards
Brendon Looker is 2nd in total receiving yards with 336 and only 14 yards behind the #1
Defensively:
Ethane Sunder leads the league in tackles with 55 total, Braydon Rogers is 6th with 27 total tackles
Brendon Looker leads the league in QB sacks with 6 and right behind him in 3rd is Austin Cansler with 3
Special Teams:
Tanner Garnsey leads the league in return yards averaging 59.5 yards per return
Jake Perry Leads the League in Punt Yards
Last week Scott Barron and Jake Perry ran for a combined total of 243 yards. (Barron 105 yds, Perry 138 yds)
Our Offensive line did a great job and I’d like to recognize them for a great game. If you take our first game were we had -29 yards rushing to our last three games of 489 yards! Keep it up boys!

Homecoming WEEK!!!!
Last weeks game against Carp we fell short of our goals. Varsity lost 10-7. The JV team is now 3-0 beating Carp 30-21. I was able to catch some of the game, Nick Stringer had two key interceptions that helped seal the deal for the Rangers!
The Varsity team is dealing with injury and sickness for the second week in a row. Seniors Devon Page, Scott Barron, Austin Cansler, Jerad Madrid and Junior Ethane Sunder all trying to heal up before this weeks game. It is a big task for your Rangers to compete with few soldiers but we will continue to fight. Next man up!
This week is homecoming and I just wanted to extend my hand in welcoming back our alumni for this weeks game. We are looking forward to having you back home and looking forward in getting back on the winning tack. Some Tri Valley league highlights so far, Parker Johnsen is second in passing yardage with 520 yds, Brandon Looker leads the league in Sacks with 5, and is in 2nd with receiving yds at 304. Ethane Sunder is 3rd in tackles with 37.
We are going to need your ENERGY this FRIDAY!!!! Be LOUD!!!!
Go RANGERS!
