Weekend review

Yeh I know it’s Wednesday but we’ve been very busy on the field! Both JV and Varsity are having the best week of practice since becoming head coach! We have talent on both teams. Last Saturday we went to the JV Westlake Tournament. We played Pacifica, Thousand Oaks, Canyon, Santa Barbara and Westlake B. As good as it was to see some old friends, and coaches that have mentored me through the years, it was awesome to see our players progress throughout the day.
Brook Meier really got in his groove in the last game against Westlake. Meier hooked up with Joey Canchola AKA “Joey C”, and Running back William Wiggins AKA “Curls” for two touchdowns a piece. Zack Floyd and Wiggins both had interceptions in the game as well. Overall the team made adjustments and look good at the end of the day.
This week they’ve been on FIRE! It looks like this is going to be a great group and we look forward to coaching them.
Varsity has been off from competition for a week and it’s been a good thing for us. I shared a story with the team about being open-minded to change. I think is set well, rather, it did set well. On Tuesday we ripped off 16 plays in 6 minutes and 23 secs. That means we ran a play spotted the ball and ran another play every 23 secs…BTW that’s pretty good ;0)
We are going to be off Friday July 2nd through July 4th. I hope you all have a great weekend and enjoy your family and friends over this holiday weekend. We have a Passing league at Ventura High School on July 5th starting at 4PM both JV and Varsity.
Summer Heat Wave & JV Passing Tournament
This week has been full of 112°F to 83°F within a day of each other. As always we will take precaution during practice to make sure the players are hydrated and safety is our highest priority. On another note we have the JV Westlake Tournament this weekend at Westlake High School. The schedules look like this:
9:20 am Nordhoff vs Thousand Oaks
10:40 am Nordhoff vs Canyon
11:20 am Nordhoff vs Chaminade
12:40 pm Nordhoff vs Pacifica
2:00 pm Westlake B vs Nordhoff
Come out and support your RANGERS!

Spring Game
The Nordhoff Ranger Football Spring game was a big success. I thought our players did a great job of competing for positions and worked very hard to impress the coaching staff and Fans attending. The blue team won the game 25-13. Both teams had some highlights. From the Blue Team Brendon Looker and Jesse Diaz have emerged as the go to receivers. Both Looker and Diaz have good speed and catch anything in sight. Looker played well on defense intercepting a ball and returning it 79 yards for a Defensive TD. The blue teams offensive was lead by RB Jake Perry who ripped of runs down the side line all night.
From the Gold Team Tanner Garnsey, Bryan Garcia, Scott Barron, Austin Cansler, Braydon Rogers and Jared Skaggs had good games. Scott Barron and Braydon Rogers combined int the back field for a 192 yard rushing night, Jerad Skaggs had the one of the longest pass completions when he hooked up With Torrey Nicholson for 50 yards. Austin Cansler and Bryan Garcia had some great blocking up front for the Gold team. Tanner Garnsey was virtually unstoppable for the Gold Defense. Tanner ended the night as the Games MVP and it was well deserved.
The Rangers Summer practices will begin June 17th, looking forward to the incoming Freshman and a new start to our Rangers Football Program!

Week 1 Coming to a Close
As week one is coming to a close I wanted to share how presently surprised I am with our TEAM. They have been working hard in and out of the GYM and the Field. They are picking up the terminology quickly and are starting to find their rhythm. We have a long way to go but the start is a good one. I would like to share some advise for those players still on the fence about playing this year. Whatever decision you make, don’t regret it. I am okay with whatever you decide you want to do. I will always encourage you to play sports and enjoy your high school career, trust me…Work will wait for you and forty years from now it’ll still be there.
Lastly we’ve had some outstanding support from our community. Today I would like to acknowledge David Skaggs and the JJ’s family for his donation to the program! Thank you Dave!
